Does the type of carrier oil matter?

Natural oils VS mineral oils is there a difference?

Carrier oil is the main ingredient in a massage oil.
A proper carrier oil is not only an oil for your massage. It needs to provide nourishment, protection and healing to your skin. Natural, carrier oils contain multiple types of vitamins that can be absorbed through the skin. Some natural oils can also have properties that provides anti-aging, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and can heal wounds.
Our recommendation, if you had a massage with natural oils, leave it to sit on your skin for a few hours if you can. Your skin need time to absorb the nutrients. Vitamin E for instance is an antioxidant that can prevent damage from UV and free radicals.
Note: Not all carrier oils are made equal. Their properties will differ depending on the oil being used.

Mineral oils are mostly manufactured from highly refined petroleum. They are a cheap alternative in the use of massage carrier oil relative to the natural oil's counterparts.

As a topical application on the skin, is mineral oil safe?

Apply on the skin. Yes, they are very safe. You can even get food grade mineral oil that one can ingest.

That said, mineral oil is not the best to use as a massage oil. It does very little for your skin. There is nothing to be absorbed by your skin to use as nourishment or for healing. Mineral oil acts essentially as a barrier to prevent your skin from losing moisture and becoming dry.

Our recommendation, if you had a massage with mineral oil, just take a shower as there is not real benefit for your skin.
